thetoolazytothinkupacoolnameblog asked me a question:

“Dear MV Partsch, Your blog is something I’ve been looking for since l first discovered tumblr and comicon. It is the epitome of motherfuGing amazingness! Thank you for sharing your work and for taking such clear and gorgeous pictures. If you don’t mind my asking what type of camera do you use? Do you shoot manual or auto? And what inspired you to start this type of blog?”

—————————————————————
Well.. First of all.. that was a whole bunch of extremely nice things to say about my work… Thank you, thank you. Very much.

Second: Please just call me Michael. That’s what the M stands for. Although I’m now thinkin’ about changing it to “Motherfudging”.

Ok. So. um. To answer your questions…..
I use a Pentax. That’s all I’ve ever used. Very happy with it. It’s a couple of years old, and apparently it’s noisy. I’m usually too busy to notice.

Auto or manually? I shoot manually. Always.

And then you asked “...what inspired you to start this type of blog?”…   Hhmmm.. Well, That’s a good question….

The Easy Answer: I just really like comic book conventions.

The Long Answer: - Well.. I’ve been going to comic book conventions since I was a little kid… First one was at the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles with my mom and my brother. Packed full of people. Old comic books everywhere. People all over the place walkin’ around dressed up like the X-Men and stuff. Stan Lee was there. Stood in a big long line to see him. Got my Amazing Spider-Man #33 signed. It was an incredible day. Within a couple of years after that, I was going to conventions as often as I could. Whenever there was one close by. Then even the ones not close by… Those weekends were the best. They were like Magic. Like Christmas.

And pretty much almost from the very beginning I started taking pictures of everything I was seeing.. Of all the cool stuff that was all around me.. Everywhere. I guess at the time I just didn’t want to forget anything. The stuff at a convention is so fleeting.. So ephemeral… It doesn’t exist really anyplace else in reality.. When you leave, its gone. Poof. I just didn’t want to loose any of those memories, ya know? I guess I just hate forgetting stuff.

At first, I was just taking pics for the people like in my little world to look at… People I knew. But then somewhere along the line I just kinda’ started taking pictures with a bigger audience in mind… For people maybe I didn’t know. Not sure why I did that… I just did…

But this I do know. I wanted to go beyond my little world.. Beyond my front door… I just thought other people might like to see what I was seeing… The way I saw it.. I thought maybe you guys would like it…. And maybe seeing it all through my eyes would be what could make the difference.. Would make it different…  Worth your while.

Or not.

But… yes.. in the end.. I just wanted to go beyond my front door.

So… anyway.. First! I tried to get a book published of my pictures (still trying), but it just got way WAY too expensive sending out stacks of full color 50 page proposals… with only lots of very polite rejection slips in return..  Plus it took forever..  So….Figured I’d skip the middle-man and just put my photos online.. Join the 21st century. Might not get paid, but at least everyone now could see them, which was kinda’ the point.. Or at least a few people, anyway… I started blogging on May 25, 2010. I’ve posted over 3400 images. I have close to 1600 followers, and every post (except for one, I think) is a photo that I took (even the art pics I post come from my camera)… All 3400 images on American Comicon have come from my camera. Every last one.. (well. except for that one. rats.)…

Ok. So. Anyway. There ya go. I think I answered you questions, right? Pretty sure I did.
Hope you like what’s comin’ up!
Stick around!

Your Friend in Time….
