Whenever I read a book that I end up falling in love with, I kiss it when I’m done reading it… Like I’m saying good-bye to a cherished friend.. or like I’m thanking someone I love with all my heart for a gift that I can never really thank them enough for…. I kissed The Fellowship of the Ring many many years ago.. I kissed every single Harry Potter book (some more than once)… I’ve kissed Gore Vidal’s Lincoln, The Caine Mutiny, a few Sherlock Holmes Books, The Sandman: The Kindly Ones, etc.. etc.. …you get the idea…
Well. Anyway. Right after I took that picture up there of Mr. Peter David, I told him everything that I just told you, and then I told him that I had kissed one of his books when I was all done with it.. a book he had written years ago all about the Hulk and Banner and Betty with even The Maestro in it… “What Savage Beast.” Just wanted him to know how much I had loved that book.. and to thank him…
well… He then said to me that there is an old Jewish tradition of people doing the very same thing.. of people kissing books before they put them away… Holy Books, I think, of the Jewish Faith, if I remember correctly… and then he thanked me very much for such a kind compliment about a book that he had written…. and that he was very happy that I liked it…
I’ll never forget that as long as I live.
I Send My Most Heartfelt and Most Hopeful Wishes to Mr. Peter David and his Family…..
